Sharad Yadav faces protests again
By Our Staff Reporter
BHUBANESWAR
JUNE 14.
The Union Minister of Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Sharad Yadav, faced protests for the second day today when he visited Dhamnagar in Orissa's Bhadrak district.
A large group of workers of the ruling Biju Janata Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party raised slogans against Mr. Yadav complaining about the distress sale of paddy in the State. However, nearly 200 demonstrators were taken into custody and Mr. Yadav's programmes went off peacefully.
The Minister had gone to Dhamnagar to attend a few functions on the invitation of Manas Ranjan Mallick, an independent MLA who had defeated the BJP State unit president, Manmohan Samal, in the last elections. Mr. Mallick is a known supporter of Dillip Ray, Rajya Sabha MP and detractor of the Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik. Mr. Yadav had been heckled by a group of protesters at the Biju Patnaik airport here on Friday. Claiming to be the members of the Paddy Farmers' Protection Committee, the protesters had roughed up Mr. Yadav and damaged his car.
