Return of Muslim families to Marad put off

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE JUNE 14. The rehabilitation of a section of Muslim families, who had fled Marad after the May 2 massacre, which was scheduled today, was postponed to a day after June 20. A decision to this effect was taken following the instructions of the Chief Minister to the Collector, T.O. Sooraj.

The Collector told The Hindu that there were intelligence reports that a section of the Hindu community at Marad might try to prevent the Muslim families that return there today.

``Hence additional forces were required to ward off such a situation. The Chief Minister, when contacted, said the rehabilitation could be done after the all-party meet to discuss the Marad issue in Thiruvananthapuram on June 20. He said the rehabilitation activities could be taken up after that day with the cooperation of all political parties,'' the Collector said. The district administration had planned the rehabilitation of a total of 30 Muslim families today.
