Police sources said about three armed naxalites belonging to the Peddapalli LGS squad went to the house of Chandra Reddy and woke up his wife, Vanaja, who is also sarpanch of the village. The naxalites asked her the about whereabouts of her husband. When she said he was away on some work, the naxalites hreatened to kill her husband and warned him to mend his ways. The naxalites stayed back in the village as it was raining. After some time, Chandra Reddy returned on his bike to his residence. As soon as he entered his house, his wife urged him to go away but he refused. Hearing the sound of his vehicle, the naxalites again visited the house and knocked at the door. Even after his wife appealed him to go leave by the backdoor, Chandra Reddy opened the door stating that he would argue with the naxalites. But, the naxalites took him aside and shot him dead from a close range and fled the scene. As it was raining, people could not come of their houses. People of the mandal observed bandh in the Kalwa Srirampur mandal in protest against the killing of the people-friendly BJP leader. In Hyderbad, the State BJP president, C. Ramachandra Reddy, while condemning the killing advised naxalites to observe restraint as there was no place for violence in a democracy. Mr. Reddy asked the Government to restore security to all BJP workers identified by the party.
