AIPJD calls off talks with JD(S)

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore June 14. The All-India Progressive Janata Dal has decided to call of merger talks with the Janata Dal (Secular), at least for the present, since it is of the view that the latter did not respond positively.

A meeting of all the top leaders of the party, including he legislators, was held here today to decide on the future course of action. It was unanimously decided to strengthen the party instead of wasting time pursuing the merger. The party leaders, however, maintained that there could be a merger at a later stage depending on the circumstances.

The President of the AIPJD State unit, C. Byre Gowda, and the Chairman of the Political Affairs Committee, M.P. Prakash, told presspersons that several teams of party leaders would be constituted to tour the State. The tours would commence from Bhagamandala in Kodagu District on June 20.

Mr. Byre Gowda said the Election Commission had recently approved the registration of the AIPJD.
