BJP backs Govt. on Chitravati row

By Our Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA June 14. The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, D.H. Shankaramurthy, has said the BJP will extend support to the stand taken by the State Government over the controversy relating to the construction of a barrage across the Chitravati.

Addressing a press conference here today, he said his party had always supported the State Government in inter-State disputes over land and water.

Denying that the BJP-led NDA Government had agreed to send a Central Water Commission team to the State to examine plans for the barrage because of pressure from the TDP Government in Andhra Pradesh, he said that the dispute could be sorted out through discussions between the two governments. He suggested that the Government make immediate arrangements for water supply by constructing a barrage for the convenience of people in parts of the Kolar District.
