On behalf of the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB), Mecon has already invited tenders for pre-qualification bids for selection of interested parties for managing the assets and distribution of power from grid substations to consumers. According to Mecon sources, JSEB has already identified six distribution circles including Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Dumka, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Loyabad for privatisation. Of these, Mecon has been appointed as consultant in four and RITES in two (Dhanbad and Jamshedpur). Ranchi became the first circle to be put on the block. Stating that evaluation of the pre-qualification bids and selection of parties eligible to take part in the subsequent bidding would be over in a month, Mecon sources claimed that the entire process of privatisation which among other things include finalisation of power purchase agreement (PPA) and handing over of the circle, would be over by the end of this fiscal.
