Karnataka girls won 25-13, 19-25, 25-14, 25-27, 15-5 in just under two hours. UP boys probably met their match for the first time in the championship. Karnataka girls pulled off what could easily be regarded as the upset of the tournament when it toppled the calculations of U.P. With its performances hardly convincing in the earlier rounds, U.P. did presume to have an easy outing. But Karnataka girls led by Vandana made an effort and it paid dividends. The results: (quarterfinals): Boys: UP bt Tamil Nadu 24-26, 25-15, 25-21, 25-27, 15-13; Manipur bt Haryana 25-19, 25-22, 25-15; Madhya Pradesh bt West Bengal 26-24, 25-20, 25-17; Karnataka bt Kerala 25-17, 25-18, 25-16. Girls: West Bengal bt Maharashtra 25-15, 25-5, 25-11; Karnataka bt Uttar Pradesh 25-13, 19-25, 25-14, 25-27, 15-5; TN bt Rajasthan 25-13, 25-12, 25-10.
