In the final set of league matches, JCT defeated East Bengal 3-2, while Tollygunge Agragami beat Indian Bank, Chennai 2-0. Despite the loss at the hands of JCT, the defending champion East Bengal too progressed to the next phase to be played in Goa early next month by virtue of better goal difference. Both East Bengal and Tollygunge ended with four points from one win and a draw. In the goal difference, East Bengal ended with plus 2 as against Tollygunge's plus 1. JCT topped Group B with two victories and a draw to log seven points. East Bengal enjoyed the lion's share of ball possession but failed to translate the territorial advantage into goals. JCT's game was based on speed and power and it made the most of the chances. In fact, JCT went 2-0 up against the run of play as Surinder Singh and Yadvinder Singh scored on counter attacks in the fifth and 22nd minutes. East Bengal strove hard and got the first reducer in the 39th minute through substitute Kingshuk Debnath in the 39th minute. East Bengal kept up the pressure to make it 2-2 through Kishore Mullick's strike in the 54th minute. As it looked like the game would end in a draw, JCT produced the match-clincher in the 69th minute through nippy Surinder Singh to sew up the match. Tollygunge was too good for Indian Bank and scored through Mriganka Sharma and Suman Dutta in the 60th and 67th minute to end third in the four-team league. Indian Bank ended last.
