In the city, the officials inspected handloom units, automobile shops, cement work units, eateries including bakeries and wine shops in Anna Nagar area, where children below 14 years were found employed. Cases were filed against the erring companies, said a press release. The drive was conducted in about 375 private business establishments in the city. The department warned that severe action would be initiated against the owners who employ children below the age of 14. Similar drives were conducted at Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Cuddalore covering 393 establishments. Those who participated in the drive at various places included the Labour Commissioner, M. Rajaram, and the Joint Commissioner, S. Mohan.
