Ex-Minister puts YSR in a fix

By Our Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM May 8. The CLP leader, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday found himself in a fix as the former Minister, Jalagam Prasada Rao, approached him with the intention of taking part in the padayatra.

Mr. Prasada Rao was under suspension for his alleged anti-party activities for the past three years. Despite several representations by his loyalists for revoking the suspension, the leadership did not respond so far. Mr. Prasada Rao met the CLP leader with a large number of his supporters and made it clear to him that he continued to be a Congressman despite the disciplinary action initiated by the party leadership. He expressed his support to the padayatra taken up by the CLP leader in solidarity with the drought-hit people. A host of party leaders including K. Rosaiah and district MLAs, Ramreddy Venkata Reddy and Younis Sultan were also present when he called on Dr. Reddy.

The CLP leader wanted M. Prasada Rao to wait a little more time to get himself associated with party activities. He said he would take up the suspension issue with the APCC-I president, M. Satyanarayan Rao, and try to get it revoked at the earliest. Mr. Jalagam Prasada Rao was more or less completely away from the party activities in the district ever since he was suspended from the primary membership. The new political equations that emerged in the district won him the support of a section of elected representatives. The former Minister, Sambhani Chandrasekhar, who had at one time been at loggerheads with him, was now supporting the demand for revoking the suspension. But the PCC General Secretary, P. Sudhakar Reddy, is still opposing the move to bring Mr. Prasada Rao back to the party fold by revoking the suspension.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy has said the employment policy of the Government had belied the hopes of the educated unemployed youths in the State. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday evening, he said the failure of the Government to provide employment opportunities had left lakhs of youths frustrated.
