Giving details to newspersons here, the Superintendent of Police, Anil Kumar, stated that one Abdul Raqeeb (26) of Thyagaraja Nagar in Hindupur had been manufacturing duplicate Glucose-D in the brand name of "Activa'', which was originally sold by a Bangalore-based company. Raqeeb had been using the same packaging as that of the original "Activa'' by getting the packing of original product scanned and printed at Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu. He had been filling the packets with sugar powder and other ingredients, which were yet to be detected, and had been selling it as Activa Glucose-D. He had been selling the duplicate product to the medical shops in Hindupur, Kadiri and Pavagada (Karnataka) areas. The duplicate Glucose-D was harmful to health, the SP said. On information provided by the head constable B.V. Chandrasekhar, the DSP of Penukonda, Kannaji Rao, and the Hindupur SI, Yellamraju, raided the house of Raqeeb and arrested him. The police also seized a packing machine, 1,900 empty packets of 20 gm capacity, 6,200 of 50 gm and 5,100 of 100 gm. Besides, they seized 50 kg of duplicate glucose powder, 26 filled packets of 20 gm, 18 packets of 50 gm and 13 packets of 100 gm.
