As of now, the certificate is mandatory only for vehicles operating in five districts including Chennai, Kancheepuram and the Nilgiris. However, the Government would issue an order extending it to whole of Tamil Nadu, the Transpor Minister, R.Viswanathan, informed the Assembly today. During question hour, he also announced that efforts were being taken to introduce the computerised emission checking equipment. As of now, there were 210 private emission checking centres and eight run by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Controal Board.
