Refuting the charge that it was behind the Marad massacre, the NDF secretariat today said that such an allegation had been made with the fond hope that it would trigger widespread attacks on NDF activists by RSS and BJP workers resulting in the breakdown of the law and order situation in the State. The CPI(M) also hoped to make political capital out of the resulting chaotic situation, it said. The NDF secretariat claimed that there was not even a shred of evidence indicating either the direct or indirect involvement of the NDF in the Marad incidents. On the other hand, there was hard evidence pointing to the involvement of CPI(M) workers in the Marad violence, the NDF general secretary, Nazaruddin Elamaran, said in a statement issued after the meeting of the secretariat.
