'U.S. firm hurting Hindu sentiments'

NEW DELHI MAY 8. Upset over the inscription of Lord Ganesha on the slipper soles manufactured by an American company, the Congress member in the Rajya Sabha, Balkavi Bairagi, wanted the Government to take it up with the U.S. authorities as it amounted to sacrilege.

Displaying photographs appearing in newspapers, Mr. Bairagi said the company was selling the chappals stamped with Lord Ganesha on the soles in Canada hurting the sentiments of Hindus. Mr. Bairagi raised the issue during zero hour and several Congress members, including Obaidullah Khan Azmi, wanted the Government to ensure that such acts were not repeated.
