Bail applications rejected

By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA MAY 8. The anticipatory bail applications of Surendra Yadav and Azad Gandhi (both RJD legislators) and Pappu Yadav, brother-in-law of Shubash Yadav, MLA, and brother of the Chief Minister, Rabri Devi, were rejected by the Gaya District and Sessions Judge, Jawahar Chaudhary today.

All three of them are absconding since non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against them a month ago for alleged involvement in a kidnapping case.

The court also turned down the regular bail petitions of three police personnel arrested for their alleged complicity in allowing the three politicians to take a man, who was in transit custody, to the residence of Surendra Yadav and torture him.

While rejecting the anticipatory and regular bail petitions, the court wondered whether the local police would impartially investigate the cases since politicians were involved and suggested that the matter be handed over to the CBI.

The judge also observed that the statement by the kidnapped man, Atul Prakash, was recorded under duress.
