Also, estimates for implementing anti-sea erosion projects on a 13.824-km stretch in seven districts were awaiting Central approval, the Minister said, replying to a calling attention motion in the Assembly today. The CPI(M) MLA, D.Mony, who moved the motion, said fishing hamlets in his Vilavancode constituency, faced the threat of being destroyed by rough sea and urged the Government to place boulders to prevent erosion on a 300-metre stretch immediately. The Minister assured that the Government would take steps. In another calling attention motion, the AIADMK MLA, V.Elumalai, charged that Forest officials were tarnishing the government image, going ahead with planting saplings in the forest areas of Athiyur and Kosapalayam in his Gingee constituency during drought, causing a huge revenue loss. When the Forest Minister, R.Vaithilingam, claimed that mango saplings had been planted on a 330-hectare forestland at Gingee, the MLA insisted that the officials were giving false information and asked whether the Government would initiate probe against them. At this, the Minister announced he would visit Athiyur and Kosapalayam forests to check the officials' claims.
