As per the order of the principal sessions judge, Mr. Stalin was to stay in Madurai till April 26 and sign before the inspector at the Tallakulam station daily at 10 a.m. Thereafter, he was mandated to sign before the Velacherry police here daily till May 20. In his present petition, Mr. Stalin contended that as youth wing leader, MLA and former Mayor he was required to travel extensively and participate in party as well as private functions. Offering to cooperate with investigating officials as and when necessary, Mr. Stalin said his presence in Chennai till May 20 might not be necessary for investigation. Justice R. Balasubramanian allowed the petition and exempted Mr. Stalin from signing before the Velacherry police daily. On April 29, the principal sessions judge, M. Jayapaul dismissed a similar relaxation petition. Mr. Stalin was arrested on April 9 in connection with "trespassing into the Queen Mary's College here and intimidating watchman". He was again arrested on April 10, at the Cuddalore central prison, in connection with the violent incidents which occurred prior to his arrest at his Velacherry residence. He is facing charges under Section 307 (attempt to murder) IPC, for allegedly inciting his party cadres to attack policemen, who had come to arrest him and causing injuries to them.
