RTC union drive against illegal operators

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD April 25. The City Region Committee of the APSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation (SWF) will launch an all-out offensive from Sunday against illegal operators who, according to them, are ``robbing the corporation of revenue.''

At a press conference on Friday, the honorary president of the city committee, K. Pardhasaradhi, and secretary, B. Danaiah, said they made several representations to the Government and the Road Transport Authority (RTA) to curb unauthorised operations, but in vain. ``Instead of appreciating our endeavour, the illegal operators are being supported,'' Mr. Pardhasaradhi alleged. He recalled how the State general secretary of the SWF, R. Laxmaiah, had a non-bailable case booked against him when he took on the illegal operators in Vijayawada.

He said the corporation was losing at least Rs. 200 crores on account of such operations. Mr. Danaiah said that on April 27 members of the SWF would stop illegal operators from plying their vehicles at the Dilsukhnagar bus stand and at the Panama Godowns near the Hayatnagar bus stand.
