Tamil Nadu
By Our Special Correspondent
The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, considered the best in the country, had ordered closure of 12 units in the complex and the Government would take further action after obtaining the report from the Health department on the ``health hazards'' caused by the effluents there. Raising a special mention on the issue, the PMK MLA, T. Velmurugan, said the toxic effluents were said to be causing impotency and infertility among the people living in and around the complex. He said he had raised the issue thrice in the Assembly so far, and three different Environment Ministers had given assurances, but the problem continued. Responding, the Minister said the TNPCB had installed a Continuous Ambient Air Quality monitoring station and was monitoring the air quality at the complex.
