Swamy welcomes U.S. stand on LTTE

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI APRIL 25. If the LTTE walks out of the peace talks with the Sri Lankan Government, the U.S. and the Indian Governments must exert influence on the Island Government to reach an agreement with the anti-LTTE Tamil coalition and unilaterally implement an Indian-type federal Constitution, the Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, has said.

Welcoming the U.S. Government's tough stand on the LTTE as revealed by the former's statement slamming the Tigers "for pursuing a violent agenda" and "prolonging the conflict", Dr. Swamy said a composite Tamil group (comprising an anti-LTTE coalition) could be supplemented with able persons of the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora abroad. The U.S. and India should jointly create an anti-terrorist caucus inside the LTTE for weakening it, he said.
