Bhopal women still carry night-soil on heads: Uma Bharti

Mhow (Madhya Pradesh) April 25. The former Union Minister for Sports, Uma Bharti, today alleged that women in Bhopal were still forced to carry night-soil on their heads even a few kilometres from the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh's residence.

Addressing the two-day National Convention of Dalits here, Ms. Bharti — the BJP's election campaign in-charge in Madhya Pradesh — alleged that the practice was continuing in Bhopal even though it was abolished in the country.

Stating that she failed to understand why Dalit colonies were separated from the rest of the city, Ms. Bharti said, "this is an issue to ponder upon."
