None dare strike Pak., says Musharraf

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD APRIL 25. The Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, has asserted that no one would "dare" launch a pre-emptive strike against Pakistan, a la Iraq.

He was replying to a question at an interactive session with a group of Pakistani editors and columnists on whether it would be the turn of Pakistan after Iraq. "Leave alone next, our turn can't be even hundredth", he shot back. There has been an intense debate in Pakistan for several weeks now on whether it qualified for an Iraqi style pre-emptive strike.

The debate became more intense after the External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha, talked about Pakistan as a "fit case for Iraqi style pre-emptive strikes".

While replying to the question today Gen. Musharraf did not refer to Mr. Sinha's recent statements. Gen. Musharraf argued that no one should forget that Pakistan was a country of 14 crore people and a nuclear power.
