dated April 26, 1953: Sholinghur Shrine

From an article by C. Seshachalam: "The sacred hill-top shrines of Sri Lakshminarasimha and of Sri Anjaneya in Sholinghur appear to be as ancient as any other in the surrounding area. Sholinghur (Cholar-Simha-pura) is at the centre of a network of all-weather roads. Approach it from any direction in any road, and you will be deeply impressed by the majestic view of the towering peak with the Gopuram. Once the ascent to the top is commenced, one becomes actually conscious of a mighty pull and the concentration of spiritual forces deepens as one nears the summit. The regular devotee and the casual pilgrim are both over-awed by the powerful atmosphere, and the majesty of the location. Sholinghur is noted for its curative effects against physical ailments and mental disorders. The waters of Thakkanikkulam and Sanjeeva Theertham are widely accepted cures. Even today, a famous musician sends for a pot of Sanjeeva Theertham to set right his sore throat. Thirumala, the Hill of Sri Lakshminarasimha, and Ghatikachala, the Hill of Sri Anjaneya, are so disposed that the shrines face one another, which is symbolic of Sri Anjaneya in tapas taking guidance from Lord Lakshminarasimha. A remarkable feature of Sri Anjaneya on Ghatikachalam is that He is depicted in Yogasana posture, and in cheturbhuja form bearing Sankha and Chakra.
