LONDON: Britain's musicians got richer in the past year with wrinkly rockers such as Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger defying global economic woes to rocket up an annual list of the country's wealthiest people. Former Beatle McCartney (60), already the country's richest musician with an estimated fortune of £760 million, became one of the country's 30 richest people after seeing his earnings soar by £47 million, the Sunday Times newspaper said. Several of his peers David Bowie (56), Eric Clapton (58), Tom Jones (62) and Elton John (55) did well, consolidating their places in the top 15 richest figures. Rolling Stone Jagger (59), the sixth wealthiest music industry figure, entered the top 200 richest Britons list for the first time with £175 million, up from £155 million last year largely due to the success of the band's Forty Licks world tour.
