8 held for killing revenue inspector

KANCHEEPURAM APRIL 23. The Chengalpattu judicial magistrate-I today remanded eight persons, arrested in connection with the alleged killing of the Kancheepuram Revenue Inspector R. Shanmugasundaram, to 15 days custody.

A special police party, formed by the Kancheepuram Superintendent of Police, E. Ma. Masanamuthu, arrested them yesterday and also seized five lorries used for the smuggling of sand from the Palar river.

Perumal (46), lorry owner of Choolaimedu, Chennai, Lakshmanan (27) of Chengalpattu, Ravi (28) of Pazhayaseevaram and Ilango (24) of Cheyyar (drivers) and Perumal (42) of Wallajabad, Chakrapani (38) of Uthukadu, Neelamegam (32) and Gunaseelan of Pazhayaseevaram (informers to sand smugglers) were produced before the magistrate, who remanded them to custody.
