RS bids farewell to three members

NEW DELHI APRIL 21. The Rajya Sabha, today bade farewell to three of its members, S. Ramachandran Pillai, C. O. Poulose, (both CPI-M) and J. Chittaranjan (CPI), who retired from the House.

The Chairman, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Leader of the Opposition, Manmohan Singh and the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, complimented the members for their contribution to the Rajya Sabha during their tenure. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) has decided to elevate the Chief Whip, Nilotpal Basu, as the leader of the party in the House, in place of Mr. Pillai who held the post. A. Vijaya Raghavan would be the new Chief Whip, while Dipankar Mukherjee would be the Deputy Leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha.
