The exhibition, having the Kempe Gowda Tower as its logo, would be inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, M.S.Thimmappa, at 9.30 a.m., according to K.B.H.Nayar, Chief Post Master General of Karnataka Postal Circle. Dr. Nayar told presspersons here on Thursday that special covers would be issued on all the three days. The cover to be released on Friday by the Chairman of Karnataka Bank, Ananthakrishna, would depict a building constructed in 1884, which now housed the Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Bangalore East Division, on Museum Road. The special cancellation had a theme of an earlier cancellation of Anche Period, Dr. Nayar said. The President of Karnataka Philatelic Society, V.Srinivasan, would release a souvenir. The Chief General Manager of Karnataka Telecom Circle, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., K.Padmanabhan, would release a special cover on the second day with the theme being environment. The special cancellation symbolically represented a tree. The Chairman of Canara Bank, R.V.Shastri, would release a special cover on the third day with the theme being children. The cover depicted a painting made by Neha Adiga, a student of Carmel Convent, Jayanagar, which won an award in a Stamp Design Contest. Awards and certificates would be distributed at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The exhibition would feature 240 frames, including 70 from children and youth. As many as 85 philatelists were participating in the exhibition. There would be a school section and "invitees class.''
Workshop
Dr. Nayar said the exhibition would be utilised to impart training to teachers and children on Philately. A philatelic workshop for schoolteachers would be held at the Conference Hall of the GPO on Friday. Entry was free. For students, a workshop would be held the next day. Entry was free. A Philatelic Quiz for students would be organised on Sunday. Admission was free. Certificates would be given to participants of the quiz and workshop in addition to prizes for winners in the Quiz competition. The exhibition would be open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the first day and between 9.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the next two days.
