This Day That Age
A dispatch dated March 26, received from Col. John Hunt, leader of the British Expedition to Everest on reaching base camp at Thyangboche, said, "Continuing our journey from Kirantichap on March 16, we crossed three big ridges whose profile we had seen from our camp. From the Chyangmala we had our first view of Everest, towering even at that distance above the intervening ranges and distinguished from its neighbours by its banner of wind-blown vapour. On March 22, we came down to Dudhkosi, which drains from the vicinity of Everest, and at last turned north following the left bank of this fine river heading towards Namche. The scenery immediately became more rugged and more Himalayan which is not met with at comparable heights on the Alps.
