Mayawati's action

Sir, — This is with reference to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati, registering 136 criminal cases against her political rivals throughout the courts in U.P. ( April 15 ). It is really ridiculous that a person in a responsible position has done this to satisfy her grudge.

Vivek Singh,

New Delhi

Sir, — Ms. Mayawati has passed derogatory remarks against Hindu gods and goddesses hurting the sentiments of the majority of the people. Those who feel a dog, or for that matter any other animal, is contemptible seem unaware of the simple fact that the entire universe is but the manifestation of God. What happens to the oblations offered is irrelevant: what matters is the faith. Ritualism conditions the common men for spiritualism and is common to all religions in various forms. A national flag is the symbol of the nation; not the nation but the army jawans make the supreme sacrifice to hold it aloft.

J.N. Bhartiya,

Lucknow, U.P.
