Refrain from extreme steps, Karunanidhi tells cadres

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI April 12. The DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, today appealed to his partymen not to commit self-immolation or suicide, whatever the provocation from the AIADMK Government.

Referring to a case of attempted self-immolation in Cuddalore, he said the life and work of each cadre were needed for both the party and the nation.

He could gauge the feelings of such committed persons, but the need of the hour was to unite the people against the ``brute force'' of the Government.

The DMK men should work towards this target.

Mr. Karunanidhi also appealed to them to refrain from any agitation as organisational elections were under way and also as the DMK was working out a joint protest plan with other Opposition parties.

The partymen should now concentrate on the elections, which reached a crucial phase, he said.
