Release Stalin, Vaiko: Ganesan

By Our Staff Reporter

Ramanathapuram April 12. The BJP today demanded the immediate release of MLAs, including the former Chennai Mayor, M.K.Stalin, who were arrested on Wednesday.

Speaking to mediapersons at Rameswaram, the All-India BJP secretary, L.Ganesan said the DMK only conveyed moral support to the Queen Mary's College students. It did not mean that the party incited them. Instead of arresting them, the police could have registered cases against them .

The Government should also release the MDMK leader, Vaiko, who was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. As the Act had many loopholes, steps would be taken to plug them at the earliest. The party would mount pressure on the Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, and the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K.Advani, to retrieve Katchatheevu for the benefit of coastal fishermen. Steps would be taken to secure release of 27 fishermen along with 31 boats, who were arrested by the Sri Lankan police on charge of crossing the international boundary line.
