Not many in TN read newspapers: Jayalalithaa

By Our Special Correspondent

Chennai April 11. The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, today took a swipe at newspapers before launching into an offensive on Opposition parties in the Assembly.

In the run-up to her anti-Opposition diatribe, she said that in Tamil Nadu not many read newspapers. But everyone watched television and were talking about the "Opposition behaviour."

The people were watching how the Opposition party MLAs, instead of performing their democratic duty and raising issues concerning the public, were creating trouble in the Assembly daily and behaving in an "irresponsible manner".

Her jibes came in response to the Congress legislature party leader, S.R. Balasubramaniam's demand that the House discuss the issue of arrest of DMK MLAs and the one-day strike by government employees yesterday.

However, the Chief Minister said the adjournment motion on the two issues could not be taken up as they were sub judice.
