The Congress legislature party leader, S.R. Balasubramaniam, said the Opposition, with the utmost sense of responsibility, was raising issues of public concern in the Assembly and it was condemnable that the Chief Minister described their behaviour irresponsible (poruppuketta thanam). Talking to the media, he said the Opposition parties wanted to raise three important issues government employees strike, turmoil among the student community over the QMC demolition issue and the arrest of the DMK MLAs for taking up the cause of the QMC students. But, they were not allowed to discuss the issues, he said. The CPI floor leader, G. Palanichamy, said his party never failed to take up issues concerning the farmers and the poor, and the Chief Minister's charge that the Opposition was behaving in an irresponsible manner was "totally unwarranted." The CPI(M) legislature party leader, J. Hemachandran, said it was the AIADMK Government which was behaving in an irresponsible manner by suddenly announcing the demolition of the Queen Mary's college.
