New Delhi
By Our Staff Reporter
``The Delhi Government is prepared to face the summer and a thorough and exhaustive action plan for managing the power situation is ready,'' Ms. Dikshit said addressing the residents of Naraina on the occasion of inauguration of the 220 kV grid sub-station in Delhi Cantonment. The sub-station will go a long way in solving power problems of Delhi Cantonment, areas of West Delhi and Patel Nagar. Ms. Dikshit claimed that last four years had been a period of unprecedented work and development in the power sector. While the situation was characterised by insufficient supply, outdated and dilapidated transformers, weak and incapacitated wiring and dysfunctional complaint redressal system four years ago when the Government came to power. "Now the entire power infrastructure and its management has taken a massive upswing. There has been a sea change in the situation on the power front after we took over the reins,'' she said. However, Ms. Dikshit said the situation on the water front might not be good and the Capital might experience some shortage of drinking water. "We are trying to do our best,'' she said. She emphasised that her commitment to improve amenities like power and water in the Capital was not only because she was the Chief Minister, but also it arose out of her concerns for Delhi as a citizen of the city. Speaking about the improvement in public transport system, Ms. Dikshit recounted the successful implementation of CNG-based system, which had 77,000 vehicles running on non-polluting fuel. She informed the scheme to bring about double capacity electric buses in the city was on its way to get implemented. The Delhi Power Minister, Ajay Maken, the Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker and local MLA, Kiran Choudhary, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister, Ramakant Goswami, and the former Delhi Minister, Harcharan Singh Balli, were also present on the occasion.
