Coimbatore, April 10. The First Additional District Sessions Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate, R. Mohandoss, has sentenced seven Shiv Sena activists to undergo life term in a 2001 case of murder of a Hindu Munnani functionary here. According to prosecution, the twin brothers, Ramasamy and Lakshmanan (23) of Thudialur, owing affiliation to the Hindu Munnani clashed with the Shiva Sena activists over a temple festival at Subramaniapuram. In a revenge bid, the Shiv Sena activists attacked the brothers on the night of July 6, 2001. Lakshmanan died on the spot while Ramasamy escaped. Of eight persons against whom the Thudialur police registered cases, the judge sentenced seven to life term and also levied a penalty for charges of unlawful assembly and possession of weapons. The other accused, Shanmugam, was acquitted.
