Demolition stayed, for now

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI APRIL 10. Foiling, for now, the controversial plan to raze Queen Mary's College buildings here, the Madras High Court today ordered restoration of educational and hostel facilities `as they existed prior to April 4', when the Chief Minister unveiled the demolition plan. Extending the stay on demolishing any building on the campus or evicting hostellers `until further orders', the First Bench also asked the students and teachers to attend classes without interruption. It directed extensive deployment of women police personnel around the campus, and said no person other than students, teaching, non-teaching and sub-staff should be allowed to enter the college and hostel premises.
