Chittaranjan murder: CBI given more time

By Our Correspondent

SIRSI APRIL 10. The judicial magistrate, Bhatkal, has extended the deadline by six months for the CBI to complete the investigation into the murder of U.Chittaranjan, MLA for Bhatkal.

Chittaranjan was shot dead on April 10, 1996 in Bhatkal. The CBI, which investigated the case, was unable to identify the culprits and filed a final report before JMFC, Bhatkal, a year ago for grant of `C' summary. But Ramachandra Gajanana Hegde filed a petition in the court alleging that the CBI had not made an exhaustive investigation and wanted the court to reject the CBI request. The magistrate then directed the CBI to start investigation afresh.

The CBI sought an extension of six months to complete the investigation and the magistrate granted the request and observed that no more extension would be given to the investigation agency.
