Kerala
By Girish Menon
Mr. Azad is arriving here on April 12. He was the AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala affairs during the Assembly elections which brought back the party to power. Even though Mr. Azad is arriving as AICC observer, usually deputed when there is a contest, he is expected to do a bit of trouble-shooting by talking over matters with Mr. K. Karunakaran. In the meantime, the KPCC president, K. Muraleedharan, formally wrote to the party MLAs to vote for the Congress official candidates. The Congress Legislature Party secretary, Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan, has also written to the party MLAs to be present by the noon of April 13 and exercise their votes in favour of the official candidates in the elections to be held the following day. Mr. Radhakrishnan also informed them that he would intimate allotment of votes to them soon. The Karunakaran and anti-Karunakaran forces were busy for the entire day sharpening their respective strategies for the electoral showdown. A psychological war is also going on between the two groups in the backdrop of numbers game in the elections.
