New twist to abduction case

By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA April 10. The man at the centre of the infamous Gaya abduction case, Atul Prakash, has sought to bail out politicians figuring in the crime and put the blame on the police even as more heads were set to roll.

In his complaint before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Patna, Prakash charged the three-man police party with torturing him at a secluded place in Gaya in a bid to extort money. He does not speak of having been taken to the residence of the RJD MLA, Surendra Prasad Yadav, who was forced to quit the Rabri Devi Ministry on the issue, as claimed by the police, thereby giving him a clean chit.

He, however, admitted that two other RJD functionaries, Azad Gandhi, MLC, and Pappu Yadav, brother-in-law of Subhash Yadav, MLC, had accompanied the police party from Gujarat to Gaya. As directed by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, the Kotwali police station will file a fresh case and enquire into the matter. The three policeman have been taken into custody.

The police are probing the role of Kotwali police station DSP, Shashi Bhushan Sharma, and a SI, Rajendra Mishra, for their role in lodging a case against Prakash on the complaint of Azad Gandhi's brother-in-law, Binod Parashar, that he had duped him of Rs. 5 lakh, in November last.

Non-bailable arrest warrants are pending execution against three politicians, including an ex-Minister, for their alleged role in obstructing the police in discharging its duties and kidnapping and torturing Prakash at the residence of the former Minister who hails from Gaya.
