dated April 10, 1953: C.E.M. Joad dead

British philosopher Dr. C.E.M. Joad (61), ill for a few months, died on the 9th in his London home. Dr. Joad might have remained an obscure University Professor but for his radio appearances in the Brains Trust programme of the BBC brought him as fame as Radio Philosopher and Prophet Joad. Provocative and witty, he led mostly an intellectual life. As a prolific author, he discussed philosophy, sociology and other matters with a mellow vision born of wide reading. Cyril Edwin Mitchinson Joad was born on August 12, 1891.
