``The supreme watchdog of the Government has revealed how the public wealth was squandered by the RTC management. When conductors are removed from service for not accounting for even small change why should the top managers who caused loss of crores of rupees be allowed to go scot-free?,'' asked M. Nageswara Rao, General Secretary, APSRTC Transport Mazdoor Sangh. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Nageswara Rao pointed out that the CAG had brought out instances where financial mismanagement was done as in building of bus stations in mandal headquarters at far off places which are of no use to the commuters, construction of Bus Bhavan still remaining idle, operation of `Mayuri' buses, incomplete function hall, etc. ``The TMS had vehemently opposed the construction of the `Bus Bhavan' during Appa Rao's rein but we were brushed aside. It has become an idle investment with galloping interest. It is sad that despite having a civil engineering wing unlike any other RTC we are unable to complete the function hall,'' said the TMS General Secretary. He demanded the Government to pay 50 per cent of the expenditure on construction of bus stations in mandal areas. He also questioned the wisdom in buying `Volvo' coaches at a cost of Rs.4.5 crore each when five ordinary buses could have been purchased for the same price.
