The abducted policemen were the Pedaraveedu Sub-Inspector, P. Anjaneyulu, a constable of the same station, S. Brahmaiah, the police communications ASI, M. Subba Rao, and a home guard, Babu Rao, both working in Markapur. This is part of the retaliatory measures to the recent Lakshmipur encounter in Adilabad in which the NTSZC member, Polam Sudarshan Reddy alias Ramakrishna, was killed. Reports reaching here said a group of naxalites, comprising between 20 and 30, caught the cops napping when they were seated in an RTC bus around 8 a.m to return to their respective places after doing bandobust duty last night in connection with the Katamraju jathara. While unofficial reports said that the naxalites snatched the service revolver of the SI and fired four rounds in the air before making them walk into the forest, the police confirmed only one round of fire in the air.
