Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Staff Reporter
In a statement here, Mahadev Prasad of AIDSO has said that professional colleges in Karnataka are demanding high fees for medical, dental, and engineering courses. Besides, these colleges may give only 20 per cent to 25 per cent of seats to the Government for allotment through the Common Entrance Test (CET). There is a possibility of the CET becoming irrelevant, and admission to professional courses being denied to students from the middle class and poor families. A pamphlet brought out by AIDSO and other organisations says parents are frustrated by the increase in fees following a Supreme Court order. The Government, which is "in the grip of the capitation fee lobby", is taking advantage of the situation. The convention will be inaugurated by Justice H.G. Balakrishna, retired judge of the High Court.
