Asian championship postponed

NEW DELHI APRIL 2. The Asian snooker championship, scheduled to be held in Kolkata from April 17 to 26, has been postponed indefinitely.

Several countries had expressed their worries about participating in the event following Iraq war, and more so due to the mystery virus spreading across the region.

Finally, it was on the caution note issued by the Kolkata airport authorities, which forced the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) to put off the event for now.

"The Kolkata airport authorities have advised us to defer the championship to keep the inbound traffic from South-East Asia under check," said BSFI vice-president Ravi K. Tandon.

Considering the prevailing situation, the Asian Council of Billiards Sport (ACBS) has directed that new dates be tentatively fixed for the month of July.
