'Human failure to blame'

NEW DELHI APRIL 1 . The Commissioner of Railway Safety, Mahesh Chand, in his preliminary report on the recent collision involving 1448 UP Shaktipunj Express and a goods train, 7330, on the Gomoh-Barakakana section of the Dhanbad division of East Central Railways, has blamed human failure for the accident.

Mr. Chand, who is in charge of railway safety of the Eastern Circle, Kolkata, said in the report that the accident, at 10 p.m. on March 16, 2003, occurred on account of the failure of the railway staff.

One person died and five others suffered simple injuries in the accident.
