`Escort service' for IT professionals

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore April 1. The Minister for Disinvestment, Communications and Information Technology, Arun Shourie, today said that his Ministry and Nasscom would jointly provide "escort service" to IT professionals travelling abroad in the light of some "unpleasant experiences" some of them had in Malaysia and the Netherlands.

Talking to presspersons, after inaugurating C-DAC's supercomputing facility here, Mr. Shourie said that following the experiences in Malaysia and the Netherlands, Indian IT professionals had several lessons to learn, one of which was to be scrupulous about visa procedures.

What happened in Malaysia was a bad experience for the IT professionals, and the Malaysian Government had expressed regret. To a question on disinvestment in Maruti, Mr. Shourie said the company had reworked its business plan, based on which it was slated to enter the market in mid-2003.
