New Delhi
By Our Staff Reporter
Outlining their plans for the year, Dr. Bansal said: "We have identified two major problem areas that need to be worked upon immediately. We will be working to strengthen the anti-quackery movement and will try to recognise the problems of service doctors in the Capital. We will be trying to improve the standard of treatment in the government hospitals and dispensaries.'' Giving details about the anti-quackery movement, Dr. Bansal said there were about 40,000 quacks playing with the lives of people in Delhi. "About 10,000 chemists are selling medicines without proper prescription and without bill and dispense medicine causing further problems. Delhi Medical Council has registered about 19,500 MBBS doctors, while other organisations have 5,000 doctors which means that unqualified doctors are twice the number than that of qualified doctors. In Delhi the quacks spoil one case every five minutes. The rational use of drugs slogan by World Health Organisation and programme of Delhi Medical Council has failed to evoke any response because of quackery.'' Meanwhile, the DMA has claimed that they will approach the Delhi Government to hold early elections in Delhi Medical Council so that genuine representation is giving to the doctors. "Elections were last held in 1998 and we have been asking for fair elections, which the Council has been delaying for over an year,'' explained Dr. Bansal. Speaking about other problems Dr. Bansal added: "DMA will work for the problem faced by nursing homes owners and doctors of private clinics in day-to-day practice. Several types of registration are done separately like registration of nursing homes, MTP centers, ultra sound, bio-medical waste and DMA will try solution like all such registration should be done at a single place.''
