Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Special Correspondent
The new system is currently being implemented in the main branch of the Pay and Accounts Office as a tested project and the Government is contemplating extending the package to all the branches of the PAO. This is one of the highlights of the improvements proposed by the Finance Department in its demands in the just concluded budget session of the Assembly. The PAO had also initiated works for computerisation of cheques reconciliation work and maintenance of GPF account slips in respect of the class IV employees of the twin cities and the new system would help further enhance the performance of the PAO which is already implementing the payroll package developed by the NIC. Meanwhile, the demands approved by the Assembly pertaining to pension and other retirement benefits project the budget estimates at a whopping Rs 2,879.14 crores for the current year. The amount includes payment of pension to retired government servants, commuted value of pension, gratuities, family pension to survivors of the deceased government staff, pension to employees of aided educational institutions and local bodies and the compassionate allowance. In addition to allocating the required funds for the purpose, the Government had also issued orders extending the scheme for payment of pension through public sector banks in respect of pensioners of other State governments staying in the State. The orders were issued with a view to expedite the issue of orders by other State governments on a reciprocal basis to the pensioners of the State staying in other states to get their pensions credited to their accounts on the first of every month. In this context, orders had been issued in respect of pensioners of Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Gujarat and West Bengal staying in Andhra Pradesh. In addition, the Government had also issued orders extending free medical treatment to pensioners in respect of certain specified diseases at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences and other specified institutions with a ceiling of Rs. 75,000.
