Karunakaran to appear in court today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM April 1. The former Chief Minister, K. Karunakaran, and seven other persons would appear in the Vigilance Special Court here on April 2 in connection with the sensational palmolein import case.

The accused persons had been issued summons by the Special Judge, N.K. Balakrishnan, on March 12 to appear before him in connection with the commencement of the trial of the case.

The other accused are T.H. Mustaffa, former Minister, S. Padmakumar, former Chief Secretary, Zachariah Mathew, former Additional Chief Secretary and former Chairman, Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (KSCSC), Jiji Thomson, former Managing Director, KSCSC, V. Sadasivan and Sivaramakrishnan, directors of Mala Trading Corporation, Chennai, and P. J. Thomas, former director board member of the KSCSC.

The chargesheet in the case had been filed by the then Vigilance S.P., Surendran, in March, 2001.
