Shooting
Abhinv shot the gold ahead of seasoned marksmen with a striking total of 701.7, following rounds of 598 in the preliminary phase and 103.7 in the final. The 19-year-old had a series of 99, 100, 100, 100, 100 and 99 in the preliminary phase and a sequence of 10.7, 10.5, 10.7, 9.9, 10.5, 10.6, 10.3, 9.9, 9.9 and 10.7 in the final. The effort helped Abhinav beat Torsten Krebs of Germany by a 1.9 point margin. Krebs had also shot a 598 in the qualification series but could muster only a 101.8 in the final. Josef Gonci of Slovakia shot a 103.7 like Abhinav in the final, but had gathered only a 596 out of 600 in the qualification series to take the bronze, 0.1 points behind Krebs, at 699.7. It was intense battle for the top honours, as Peter Sidi of Hungary took the fourth slot at 699.6 follwing efforts of 597 and 102.6, in a strong field of 97 shooters. Abhinav had a silver also to show from the Bavarian competition in Munich, making it a satisfying outing for him. The golden effort in Dortmund earlier made it a worthwhile venture overall for Abhinav, as he has been trying to get more matches under his belt before the more serious competitions in the season.
